I have been asked a number of times now about how I got into science, and how I knew what I wanted to do- the answer isn’t simple, and my career path was more a meander than a straight forward route. So join me as I go through how I got to where I am today.

In my blog so far I have interviewed some amazing female scientists with biology and chemistry backgrounds. I follow loads of scientsist on Instagram, but a relatively small number of the women I follow are physicists or mathematicians. Within subjects like physics, maths, engineering, chemical engineering women are still in the minority. And this is reflected in classrooms across the country.

This week we are moving out of the world of plants and cells, and into the world of marine biology. Oceans cover a whopping 71% of our planet, but despite this we actually know very little about what lies in its depths. And, even though our oceans are extremely important for millions of different marine creatures, as well as ourselves, we have taken our oceans for granted.
